'Twas the twelfth day of March,
Nineteen thirty was the year.
Gandhi set out on the Dandi march.
In his heart was a cheer.
Taking up the issue of simple salt.
He brought the Brit forces to a halt.
Getting supporters to join the fray.
For 24 days he led the way.
He upset the so-called apple cart.
The Britishers he did outsmart.
To detractors, he did not give ear.
He was a man without fear.
The man with conviction.
The man with determination.
The man on a mission.
The man with a vision.
In Satyagraha, he found the means to an end.
He created history, the man is a legend.
I was actually inspired while sitting at Ahmedabad airport waiting for a flight that is way over-delayed. I reflected back on the route we passed (over the Sabarmati) and decided to write about the march initiated here 🙂
This poem is an expression.
To overcome the delay depression.
While 'twas about Brit-Gandhi tryst.
Crossing Sabarmati was the real catalyst.
